I’ve rarely met a cocktail I didn’t like. – Tim Barrett, American Educator, 1953
Cool and refreshing, tart, sweet and tangy, smooth, dry and sour, just add a little liquor and let your inhibitions go! Today, we are celebrating National Daiquiri Day and some of our top choices for summer drinks and cocktails. And when it comes to our line of business and priding ourselves in picking the perfect pours for our Mood Events this season, we are drawn to a few of the popular fruity favorites as well as some of the more traditional tastes.
Let’s start with the favored frozen Daiquiri, one of the six basic drinks listed in David E. Embury’s classic The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks. With its dessert-like qualities, this frosted smoothie-style drink is a summer staple and comes in a variety of flavor combinations and offers endless presentation possibilities from bright colors of mixers, fresh fruit garnishes and fun and fancy glassware all of which help add to the ambiance and theme of any sunny season occasion or party.
For a South of the Border, Mexican style theme or occasion, we recommend the festively fresh, always popular Margarita. There is something incredibly delectable about the combo of freshly squeezed ripened lime or lemon juice (the key ingredient of course), sea salt and a preferred smooth top-shelf Tequila mixed with Cointreau or other flavored liqueur. Whether it’s served frozen or on the rocks, it’s definitely a crowd-pleasing cocktail. In fact, people love Margaritas so much they’ve come up with some really fun and quite interesting variations including using fresh semi-sweet grapefruit and savory tomatoes as the base, a unique take that is sure to please.
Continuing on with the cultural theme and in keeping with a Spanish and Argentinian taste, one of our personal best-loved mixed spirits is the growing popularity of Rosé or White Wine Sangria also known as Sangria Blanca or Clerico. This traditional summer “punch” of social gatherings consists of a fine white wine (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc), various chopped fruit which could include orange, lemon, lime, apple, peach, melon, berries, pineapple, and more, all mixed with a honey or sugar sweetener or juice and a splash of brandy, seltzer, Sprite or 7 Up. The well-chilled concoction is perfection for just about any kind of indoor or outdoor summertime soiree.
So, cheers to the fun times, shindigs and dog days of summer and a toast to good health: May you live as long as you like, And have all you like as long as you live.
